Welcome - the movie

A good comedy movie with a sentimental story line, that's what 'Welcome' is all about. Two brothers (Nana Patekar and Anil Kapur) along with their boss (Feroz Khan) were keen on getting their sister Sanjana (katrina) married to a respectable family. This is where Akshay Kumar (Rajiv) comes in and Uday (Nana) decides that he is the man for his sister. But Rajiv's uncle denies them a chance as he knew the underground activities of his group. Meanwhile, Sanjana, unaware of her brothers' contrivances, meets Rajiv on a cruise and the two fall in love. She has the acceptance of Dr. Ghunghroo, who doesn't realize that she is the sister of the Mafia. When Dr. Ghunghroo realises this fact, he tries escaping the fury of the brothers. The hilarity makes the story more interesting and your welcomed very much to the theater to watch this movie.

Kaalai Movie reviewed

For those people who are following my blog, its a known fact that 'Kaalai' was on the top of my list of 'must watch movies' which were released for this Pongal. But when I went to the theater to enjoy all the action, there were many twists in the tale. Please I request you all to stay away from this movie (it really hurts to say like this because there is so much work involved to make a movie but..). This is the worst picture which I've ever seen. For the first time in my life I missed the climax because I was unable to sit in the cinemas due to the story-line, script, movie making skill (screen play), etc, etc.. All of them are in the negative side for the film. Each and every character got a nice build up but none of them really lived up to the hype. The important part is that three characters of the movie share the same name ' Jeeva '. The director tried to play some tricks with that name and sort of maintained suspense but the base story was missing from each and every frame. Right from the start tension builds up due to hype created for Simbhu but he definitely does not deserve such kind of thing. His character do not have enough weightage and moreover there is no strong story line.
The uneasy feeling crept up right from the beginning of the movie. Santhanam managed to do some sort of comedy. But that alone couldn't help the film. Simbhu was over-reacting and was having super-human powers to hit anyone and everyone. While listening to the background score, I had a feeling that 'Hey! I've listened it somewhere!'. So that didn't add taste to the movie. Overall the film was worst. I cannot comment about the climax because I was not there to witness the feat. If you have decided to watch this one, then 'All the Best'. My rating for this one is 2.5 on a scale of 5.

Bheema Review

Bheema the much 'awaited' Vikram starrer is out for the Pongal (it should have been released for the last year's Pongal, but anyway..). Has the movie lived upto its hype? That's the big question? The answer is unfortunately, 'No.' You have seen the story so many times on the silver screen and the screen play wasn't that good in the end. But there are several pluses in the movie which makes it to be termed moderate rather than the other way. Vikram is as usual in his sublime form. He is the son of a constable who grows up watching a goon. The goon becomes the role model for him. He is so much inspired by the goon that he starts working for him. The goon is none other than Prakash Raj. He impresses everyone with his looks and demeanor. Trisha is the usual pinning heroine, but for her looks. She is too good to watch in this movie. Harris Jeyaraj ended up giving yet another hit album from the dock. ' Mudhal Mazhai..' and 'Rashasiya Kanavugal..' are instant hits. But the music for action sequence is a bit lackluster. The climax is the main draw-back. There is too much of violence in this movie. My rating is 3.2 on a scale of 5

Taare Zameen Par

Very rarely do you get to see such great films that touch your heart and make you a better person. Hats off to Aamir Khan for giving us an exceptional film. Exceptional, because it serves the higher purpose of art, cinema in this case.

‘Taare Zameen Par’ is about a little boy, or shall I say a little flower that has been nipped so many times in the bud that it begins to wilt. But then comes the gardener, the man who lets, and helps, the bud to flower fully.

The story of the movie: Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary), an 8 year old child, is different from all the other kids of his age. He is busy looking at dogs, fishes, colourful things etc and painting while the world around him is busy buried in their own work. He had failed in Std 3 and there was no improvement in him. His family consisted of his mother Maya (Tisca Chopra), Nandkishor (Vipin Sharma) and Yohaan (Sachet Engineer) who are all fed up of him. After repeated complaints, Ishaan’s father decided to admit him in a boarding school so that he’ll learn discipline there and become a studious and obedient boy.

Ishaan refused to go and pleaded but his pleas fell on deaf ears. Finally, he was admitted. There his life remain unchanged and plus, he had to bear the trauma of separation from his family. Slowly, he became an introvert and stopped talking as no one understood him. One day, a new art teacher came to their school, Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan). An enjoyable and cheerful man, he was not like the rest of the ‘disciplined’ types teacher. He loved and taught his students to enjoy life and to bring out their emotions by painting. He spotted the sad, scared and lonely Ishaan and decided to help him.

Aamir, the dependable Khan, is up to his credentials as an actor. But it is as the director that he scores. Aamir has handled the subject with great sensitivity. His cinema is not about style but substance. Without straying into the usual trappings of a regular Bollywood film and at the same time blending the superb songs by Shankar Ehsaan Loy smoothly in the narrative, Aamir keeps TZP focused solely on the story and its essence.

And what a story it is. Amole Gupte deserves no less credit for penning such a touching tale. It is a story that shows the helplessness of a kid who is not able to perform tasks that are beyond his abilities. It also shows the lack of understanding on part of teachers and parents while dealing with such kids. And, last but not the least, it is a story of hope. It is a story that not just touches you but also transforms you. That, for me, is the higher purpose of art. And that is precisely why ‘Taare Zameen Par’ is an exceptional film.

From Bombay to Bangkok

Mumbai: Shreyas Talpade may be playing an Indian cook on the run in his forthcoming film Bombay to Bangkok but how good a cook is he in real life?

"Well I am a terrible cook in reality. I told my wife before marriage that I knew how to cook. Now she says I lied to her. Even nagesh wonders that he hasn't seen me entering a kitchen in three years," he admits.

Cooking may not be his forte but playing pranks certainly is and Talpade had a few tricks up his sleeve on the sets of Bombay to Bangkok.

"She (the lead opposite him) wanted to learn Hindi so I told her to tell Nagesh - Kameene bas bahut hua, ab pack up. (Enough you rascal, pack up!). She went and told this to him," the actor recalls.

As for Kukkoonoor, the move from human dramas like Dor and Iqbal to a comedy was planned.

"After Iqbal and Dor , I was looking to do something different. I had not tried anything of the sort after Bombay Calling and the timing was perfect. I wanted to explore a new country, a new culture and so put the two elements together," says Kukkoonoor.
